At the distance of many centuries and thousands of miles, the civilization
of the Byzantine Empire presents an appearance of union of numerous
areas and peoples. But it never was a unity. Byzantine Emperors`
craving for the control over a huge territory caused a number of
endless and severe wars. In the 6th century Byzantine
Army was at war with Goths, Serbs, Arabs, Georgians, Bulgarians,
Italians and Persians. Though constantly attacking and being attacked,
the Byzantine Empire turned into the powerful and flourishing state.
